Press Releases
Bestoutcome’s PM3, helps WHSmith deliver increased business value from their projects and programmes.

Press Release 1st November 2009

Bestoutcome, the programme and project specialists announced that WHSmith has implemented PM3 to improve communication and streamline project processes. PM3’s outcome-driven approach helps WHSmith deliver the right projects and ensure they deliver the right project outcomes for the business.

WHSmith PLC is one of the UK’s leading retail groups.

WHSmith PLC has 565 high street stores and 490 travel outlets at airport, train station, hospital, workplace and motorway service area locations primarily in the UK.

Prior to using PM3, WHSmith used MS Project and bespoke reporting.

Today PM3 is used across all IT projects. Its powerful, outcome planning component interfaces with MS Project and produces milestone plans that are easy for non-IT stakeholders to understand.

Peter Swann, WHSmith’s IT Director, said “PM3 is a ‘light-touch’ tool that is quick to deploy. It gives us better visibility of our project portfolio and its objective way of defining traffic light reports ensures that we have consistency and objectivity in reporting across projects. The ‘promotion’ in PM3 of milestones, risks and issues enables senior management to see only what is important to them and not entire plans. This ‘wood for the trees’ approach ensures we focus our management time on the important aspects of projects to ensure they stay on track to deliver the required business benefits.”
